SEO STRATEGIES FOR A TOP 10 RANKING

Keep page titles simple and relevant

A page title is the text that appears in the top bar of your web browser at the left-most corner. Every page in your website should contain a unique title that is relevant to the content and keywords you are targeting. You'll want to keep webpage titles short, preferably nothing more than the exact keywords.

For example, the title for our targeted student loan consolidation web page would be "Student Loan Consolidation". To set the title we need to place our text within the TITLE tag on the page.
  • [ TITLE ]: Titles should consist of the exact keyword phrase.
Make sure you treat the title text as a proper title and capitalize the first letter of every word. Note that we've kept the name of the page short, and for good reason. The LESS text that appears in a webpage title, the more relevant it will be. If you were to change our example title to something verbose such as "Student Loan Consolidations And Where To Find The Best Companies For Them", you will be diluting the emphasis on your keywords. Also note the use of the words "And" in the example above. Words such as "And" are considered filler words, words that have no impact on the title other than to make it more readable. Try to avoid filler terms and instead replace with the "|" symbol as seen in the following example: "Student Loan Consolidations | Where To Find The Best Companies For Them".

Although we discussed keeping titles short, there may be times when you want to be more descriptive since the title of the page is the text that appears when a user bookmarks it. Longer titles are better for the user, but not necessarily better for the search engines. You need to find the balance between the two.
