Keyword Strategies for a Successful Google AdWords Campaign

Obtaining a first page (top 10) placement in Google will vary depending on how niche your market is and the competitiveness of the keywords you target for your Search Engine Optimizations (SEO). Placing in the top 10 can sometimes take months or even years and will require on-going SEO and possibly expensive ad campaigns. Most users will probably never see a top 10 placement, or even a top 100 placement. Fortunately, you can bring targeted traffic to your site with Google AdWords. Google AdWords is a pay-per-click (PPC) advertising system where webmasters set-up text ads and pay Google per click. With AdWords, you can just about guarantee a top 10 placement by simply setting a PCC threshold and letting the system drive traffic to your site. It's a viable and effective method of generating traffic, especially for newcomers.

Opening an AdWords account is just one small step in a successful campaign. The keywords you choose to drive the traffic are going to determine modest success vs. great success. In fact, targeting the correct keywords is perhaps one of the strongest components in generating quality traffic. If you're serious about targeting the right keywords, it's recommended you open a Wordtracker account. WordTracker is an outstanding web tool that allows you to track the frequency of words that have been searched in the major search engines. It also provides an excellent array of reports and stats, including predication reports and keyword competition analysis.

Once your Wordtracker account has been established and you've obtained your list of keywords and keyword phrases, it's time to add them to your AdWord campaign. The following is a list of strategies you should consider for your AdWords keywords.

Successful AdWord Strategies
  1. Use both single and double words. Example: backlinks, back links.
  2. Use synonyms wherever possible Example: book, tome, volume.
  3. Use both singular and plural words. Example: backlink, backlinks.
  4. Use common misspellings. Example: casino, casnio.
  5. Use abbreviations. Example: doctor, Dr.
  6. Use acronyms. Example: Search Engine Optimization, SEO.
  7. Use dates and years where appropriate. Example: 2006 richest people in the world report.
  8. Use numbers where appropriate. Example: Top 10 online casino bonuses.
  9. Use verb word forms. Example: research, researching.
  10. Use hyphens where appropriate. Example: one way links, one-way links.
  11. Use action and buzz words. Example: unique, new, discount, top, best.
Your goal for your Google AdWords campaign should be to find the best combination of keywords with the least amount of competition. This will help keep your cost-per-click (CPC) at a minimum and will generate quality traffic. Once you've found some niche keywords and your ads are in effect, make sure to monitor them daily. You will need to analyze and adjust your ads based on the results and traffic you've received. Try to think of new keywords at least once a week and always follow up and adjust your AdWords as needed. By doing this you'll be one step in front of the "set it and forget it" competition.
